And You Can, Too
In February 2019, the walls of Humble Universe Disturbers Used Books and More in Clarksville, Tennessee’s historic downtown were transformed. They set a dreamlike, mystical tone for the readers perusing the store’s shelves.
On the walls hung softly tinted wildlife portraits. The animals were draped with cacti, flowers, and vines, “I enjoy illustrating animals that have a captivating and mysterious feel, which I enhance by incorporating natural elements, such as flowers, crystals, and plants,” explained artist Tara Swalgren, an alumna of Austin Peay State University. “The creatures that I create are fantastical yet believable.”
What moved Swalgren to select this ethereal subject matter? “For me, [animals] represent something that humans will never have… there seems to be a purity to animals,… an innocent and peaceful mindset.”
Swalgren uses pen, paints, and gold leaf to capture her quarry on large-scale canvases. “I want you to get lost in the color and textures of the work. I want you to indulge yourself, if only for a moment.”
Would you like to add the tranquility of Swalgren’s paintbrush to your home or office? Her original paintings and prints are often showcased at local establishments, and are always available through her Etsy shop, Swalgren, You can also help fund Tara’s art via the website Patreon, where you will receive a monthly gift of stickers, postcards, or prints in return for your support.
